You may have seen Silk Street Jazz performing on the latest MORE THAN ‘Feel the love’ advert that we recently filmed in the lovely city of St Albans.

We were excited to jazz up the proceedings, marching through the streets while the insurance company said thank you to the general public for their business by offering free tea and biscuits!

Funeral Jazz Band brighten up a sad occasion

A couple of weeks ago we performed for Kevin and family at Croydon Crematorium. Kevin’s father loved jazz and always wanted a jazz band to perform at his funeral. We were able to fulfil this request by turning a sad occasion in to a celebration of life for family and friends. We performed a short walk from the crematorium gates and led everyone in and out of the service, playing his favourite song “Didn’t He Ramble” in the middle of the service. Kevin kindly wrote to us afterwards thanking us for making the event such a celebration:

“The music was exactly what my Dad would have wanted. We did not tell anyone about the band and it created just the effect I wanted in that when people came out of the service, all said how good the band was, and not, so sorry for your loss. I cannot thank you enough also for your support while arranging the event”.

We were also pleased to receive a hand written note from Kevin’s mum also thanking us personally:

Silk Street Jazz would like to wish all our readers Season’s Greetings and a fantastic New Year!

The band have had a busy year with many memorable gigs – we’ve truly enjoyed every minute.

Silk Street Jazz highlights from the year

We have raised money for a North London Hospice with a free concert, performed at London Fashion week for the Orla Kiely Fashion Presentation, played for a Mardi Gras evening and throughout the summer we had great fun entertaining the crowds at the Royal Windsor Races for the second year running.

2012 was a star-studded year for Silk Street Jazz! In May we appeared in a new Barclay Card TV advert with none other than David Hasselhoff! We also were honoured to perform for Eddie Izzard in September.

Our Jazz band line-ups have outdone themselves providing bespoke entertainment for each event they have played at.

Our Silk Street Lucky Four 1920s tribute act have played at some swinging prohibition and vintage parties and the ever popular Silk Street Santas are currently bringing very special festive spirit to the party season!

They’ll be back next year so get your 2013 Christmas party entertainment bookings in early!

New Orleans Jazz Band at Wellcome Collection

Tomorrow Silk Street Jazz 7-Piece band will be performing New Orleans jazz at the Wellcome Collection on Euston Road and what’s more, it’s totally FREE to come and watch us perform live! The band will be featured in the foyer as part of the Seize The Day Exhibition. There are activities in the galleries, tea dance classes and talks by Joanna Ebenstein, David Spiegelhalter and Frank Swain. This event is free, so drop in any time between 19:00 – 23:00. Talks are ticketed and tickets will be available on the night from 19.00. Hope to see you there!

Who doesn’t love a good wedding? Often our most memorable gigs are weddings and civil ceremonies and we love entertaining guests at these happy events. From the romantic walk down the aisle to the all-night dancing at the reception, Silk Street Jazz have been privileged to provide the entertainment for several brilliant weddings recently, including a memorable beach wedding.

For a unique wedding, there is no better place than to take your vows by the seaside. A beach location is a charming and memorable place for a wedding and is also one of the easiest ‘different’ wedding ideas to get off the ground.

How to plan a beach wedding

Many companies work solely to design your perfect beach wedding. Silk Street Jazz have worked with the lovely Beach Weddings Bournemouth and the very helpful Belissimo Events to create a lovely seaside wedding in the south of England.

Getting married on a beach is a romantic and unique way to celebrate a union and is a location being chosen more and more frequently by couples for civil partnerships and weddings. The entire wedding can take place on the sands, from the vows to the reception. Beach wedding specialists often have a reserved section of private beach, ensuring that you and your guests can have the area to themselves. Funeral Band Hire Thank You

A few weeks ago Silk Street Jazz got the opportunity to lead a funeral procession in the beautiful village of Caton near Lancaster. The 5-Piece band started performing at the family home and played New Orleans Jazz Funeral music right the way through the village to the Church. Afterwards we were invited back to the Wray’s Tea Rooms for some tea, cake and a fantastic buffet. We received this hand-written note today from Janet thanking us for our contribution to the day:

Silk Street Jazz perform for Eddie Izzard

A couple of weeks ago we had the privilege to perform for Eddie Izzard on top of the fabulous De La Warr Pavillion, Marina, Bexhill, East Sussex. Here is a picture of us with Eddie, what a chap!
