7 Tips and Tricks To Plan An Outdoor Party

plan an outdoor party

A combination of the long-awaited easing of lockdown and the recent good weather has put many people in a decidedly summery mood. We’re all desperate to be able to get together for events – any event – just as long as we don’t have to think about masks, bubbles and social distancing! The fact that the sun has had its hat on these last couple of weeks has even got us thinking – Hey, it might not actually rain! No, there really has never been a better time to plan an outdoor party.

So, how do you go about it? Well, here are 7 tips and tricks to plan your time and solve your immediate worries!

Plan an outdoor party – The essentials

1. Decide on your budget – and stick to it

You would never make an expensive purchase, start a home improvement project or even do the weekly shop without having a top budget in mind. If you want to plan an outdoor party, the same rules apply.

It’s a good idea to start with a wish list and then decide what your ‘red lines’ are – the things you absolutely have to have. Next, see how your budget ties in. It’s important to be realistic rather than idealistic. What’s more you need to consider everything: food, decoration, seating, entertainment, etcetera.

2. Pick a theme

Whether you want to go for the classic, quintessential English summer garden party – all afternoon tea, Victoria Sponge and Pimms – something really specific – such as a 1920s theme – or something far more general, the theme will have a bearing of every aspect of your event and how to plan your outdoor party.

3. Send out invitations

Regardless of how informal your party is going to be, it’s still a good idea to send out invitations. Snail mail, email or text – it doesn’t matter. It’s important that you request an RSVP, so you know how many guests you are planning for.

4. Design and décor

Your chosen theme will be the driving factor here. It certainly doesn’t have to be extravagant. Some very simple touches can make all the difference and really lift the space.

5. Choose your food and drink

Your menu could match your party theme but the crucial thing is that you have enough food and drink for everyone. You also need to make sure you have catered for all dietary needs and preferences. If you want to introduce a unique twist, why not create a signature cocktail/mocktail for your event?

6. Get the outdoor space ready

If you want to plan an outdoor party, you’ve got to have a space that fits the bill. A lot will depend on your budget and the nature of the event. You might be thinking about a marquee and a stage. Alternatively, the main issue might be making sure you have enough tables and comfortable seating. Either way, give the area a spruce up and make it as social as you can. Then you should ask yourself the question: Is there enough room to have entertainment?

7. Book the entertainment

In the Spotify age, it’s simple enough to put together a playlist to suit most moods. However, nothing can really top a live act. Whether you want an act to serve as the main event, or one that is providing more of a musical backdrop throughout the event, Silk Street has hundreds of great acts to choose from
